[2025 Osaka Expo] Complete Guide to Takeout from the UK Pavilion | Fish & Chips + Scones Review

Takeout from the UK Pavilion is especially popular, but a little on the expensive side. That’s why you’re probably curious about the experiences of people who have actually tried it.

I chose

Fish & Hand-Cut Chips (¥1,950)

and Cream Tea Scones & Jam (¥1,850).

Fish & Chips is the British Pavilion’s signature dish.

The thick white fish is crispy on the outside, with a crunchy coating and a fluffy interior.

The side dishes include potatoes, lemon, mashed edamame (the menu says mint-flavored mashed peas), and tartar sauce. The line to order is under an umbrella, but since they serve it fresh, I waited about 10 minutes. While waiting for my order, I stood in front of the store in the sun. I wish I had a sun umbrella!

Freshly fried, “Hot!” The taste is also very satisfying. It takes a while to come out. It may be too hot to bite into! Be careful! (There is no lemon in the photo, but it comes with lemon. This is after it has been squeezed on!)

Many people were ordering fish and chips at the restaurant, which showed how popular it is.

Perhaps because it was lunchtime, not many people were ordering scones, but fish and chips and scones are a classic British food combination that is also suitable for takeout.

Two scones and a pot of tea. With clotted cream and jam, it’s just like afternoon tea. The best part is the satisfaction of eating authentic scones. The scones were not as dry as I had expected.

The clotted cream was the same as the one I had in the Cotswolds. (I’ve included a photo of the scones I had in the Cotswolds at the end of this article.)

For two people, we recommend the combination of fish and chips and scones.

These two items, fish and chips and scones, are a satisfying combination that allows you to fully enjoy the British experience. For us older folks, the volume, taste, and balance were all very good.

At the outdoor tables, two older women across from us were each eating a serving of fish and chips. However, before finishing their meals, they looked full after eating the French fries.

Be careful with drinks! Apple juice comes in cartons!

It was hot that day, so one of us ordered apple juice. To our surprise, it came in a paper carton. There were no paper cups either. We were disappointed. (As of June 20, 2025)

I was saddened to hear that it would cost ¥500.

Summary: Enjoy the British atmosphere with takeout from the British Pavilion!

The outdoor tables on the grounds of the British Pavilion are shaded by parasols. There is no feeling of being rushed.

If you prefer a restaurant, the air conditioning is effective, making it a good choice as well.
