Why We Chose Clayton Bay Hotel|Perfect for a Senior Couple’s Cycling Trip
When planning a cycling trip, choosing the right hotel is always a key concern.
For couples over 60, conditions such as “quiet environment,” “calm atmosphere,” and “separate bath and toilet for comfort” become especially important.
We planned our trip to enjoy the Kakishima Kaido cycling route from Kure to Etajima.
That’s when we found Clayton Bay Hotel.
Once we stayed, we were impressed by everything: the spacious parking, the quiet environment, the comfortable rooms, great access, and the outstanding restaurant.
Comfortable Rooms with Separate Bath & Toilet|Perfect for Relaxation

One of the hotel’s best features is the option to stay in rooms with a fully separated bath and toilet.
Instead of a typical Japanese unit bath, the bathroom feels like a home-style bath with a bathtub and washing area. You can soak and relax properly.
The washbasin area is also independent, making it very convenient to use.
We reserved an ocean-view room, and the sight of the calm Seto Inland Sea spreading outside the window was breathtaking, especially in the early morning.
The room also had a kettle, complimentary drinks, and fluffy, comfortable beds.

Spacious Parking|Easy Bicycle Assembly
Our travel style is called rinko (輪行): disassembling our bicycles, loading them into the car, and reassembling them at the destination.
So, having a wide parking space was an absolute must.
Clayton Bay Hotel has a very large parking lot. Even when we arrived and it was crowded, staff guided us to available spaces.
The next morning, many cars from party guests had left, so we could move our car to the edge and comfortably assemble our bikes.
Excellent Location for Cycling|Kure Port Nearby
The hotel is located right next to Kure Port.
For Kakishima Kaido cycling, the standard route is to take the ferry from Kure to Etajima.
That makes the access to the ferry terminal a huge advantage.
Although the hotel is a bit far from the train station, we traveled by car, so it was no problem at all.
For a car + cycling trip style, this location was just perfect.
Meeting the Famous YouTube Manager & Chef!

One of the most surprising moments was meeting the famous “Yawaragi” manager and the stern-looking chef featured on YouTube.
They were exactly as lively as in their videos, and they even kindly posed for photos with us.
It truly became one of the best memories of the trip.
The Hotel Restaurant is Superb|We Went Twice in a Row
Another important factor when choosing a hotel is food.
If you can enjoy great meals without leaving the hotel, that’s a huge plus.
Clayton Bay Hotel has the Japanese restaurant Gotou (呉濤)—and it was simply excellent.
Day 1 Dinner|Great Taste & Big Portions

Here’s what we ordered on the first night:
- Destroyer Koufu Gomoku Sushi Set – ¥3,300
- Assorted Tempura – ¥1,650
- 3-Kind Sashimi Plate – ¥1,980
- Seafood Salad – ¥1,650
The portion sizes were larger than expected, and especially the seafood salad was filled with fresh sashimi—so much that even sharing between two people was too much!
Day 2 Dinner|Tried Different Dishes

The next day, because of bad weather, we changed our plan from cycling to driving, and decided to dine at Gotou again.
We ordered:
- Combined Fleet Set Meal – ¥3,630
- Ladies’ Set Meal – ¥3,190
Both were delicious and beautifully balanced.
To our surprise, the staff remembered us from the previous night and offered us dessert choices—a thoughtful touch that made us very happy.
Breakfast Buffet is Famous Too|Next Time for Sure
We couldn’t try the breakfast buffet this time because of our early morning cycling plan, but it’s said to be very popular.
Next time, we’ll definitely try it and update our review.
