West Shinjuku Hotel Review: Why “Daiwa Roynet” is Perfect for Seniors & International Guests (Plus: TOKYO Night & Light!)

１．A Mature & Relaxing Tokyo Stay

Tokyo, Shinjuku. It is known as the center of a bustling metropolis. However, finding a hotel here can be tricky. You might wonder, “Is it too noisy?” or “Is it safe?” This is especially important for senior travelers like us, or anyone looking for a relaxed stay.

Recently, I stayed at the “Daiwa Roynet Hotel Nishi-Shinjuku PREMIER” to scout it out for friends visiting from abroad. The conclusion? “Choosing this place was the correct answer.”

It offers a calm environment slightly away from the hustle and bustle of Shinjuku station, modern facilities, and best of all, a very reasonable price. When I stayed, the lobby was lively with international travelers, but everyone was very quiet and relaxed. I immediately understood why it is so popular.

I also experienced the talked-about “TOKYO Night & Light” (Projection Mapping) which started just a short walk from the hotel. I will report on that as well. If you are planning a couple’s trip to Tokyo or guiding international guests, this is a must-see!

２．Hotel Review: Why This Was the “Smart Choice”

・Calm West Shinjuku, Yet Great Access

The hotel is located in the “West Shinjuku” area, away from the noise of the main station. This is the best sightseeing base for seniors or those who want to enjoy a calmer Tokyo.

For example, after sightseeing around Tokyo Station, you just take the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line. It’s a direct ride to the nearest “Nishi-Shinjuku Station,” and a 5-minute walk from Exit 2. It is also convenient from “Tochomae Station” on the Toei Oedo Line (about a 9-minute walk).

The roads from both stations are bright, paved, and safe, so you can feel secure even late at night.

And here is a very important tip: It is very close to the “Hilton Tokyo.” The Airport Limousine Bus from Haneda and Narita Airports connects directly to the Hilton’s main entrance.

If you take the bus to the Hilton, the Daiwa Roynet is just a short walk away. This is a huge relief for international guests with heavy luggage or seniors who want to save their energy.

The area around the hotel is a sophisticated office district with wide, clean streets—completely different from the Kabukicho side east of Shinjuku.

・“Separate Bath & Toilet” & Useful Rental Items

The high-quality mattress provides excellent support, ensuring a restful sleep after a long day of sightseeing in Tokyo.

✅️ The area is compact, but functionally designed

In Tokyo, where hotel rooms can often feel small, having this much space to relax is a true luxury. It was the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee while gazing at the city view.It provides just enough space to work on a laptop or enjoy a drink.

✅️ Seniors can relax! “Separate Bath” & “Bath Chair” Rental

The bathroom is a separate type (bath and toilet are separate)! There is a washing area just like in a Japanese home, so you can soak in the bathtub and heal your travel fatigue. I was even more impressed that they rent out “Bath Chairs.” Hotel showers often require standing, but with a chair, you can wash your body while sitting. This is safe for seniors or those with small children. (Note: We realized this too late and missed borrowing one. Don’t make our mistake—ask the front desk!)

✅️ No fighting over outlets! Chargers included

A common travel problem is “not enough outlets.” Cameras, smartphones, smartwatches… we have so many things to charge. This room had plenty of outlets near the pillow and desk. Even as a couple, there was no stress waiting to charge devices.

Every room is equipped with a multi-type charger compatible with various smartphones. Wireless chargers for smartwatches are also available to borrow at the front desk. So don’t worry if you forget your cable.

✅️ Convenient for eating in! Paper plates & chopsticks

When we wanted to relax in the room, I was happy to find they lend out paper plates and chopsticks. If you buy fruit or deli items at the convenience store downstairs, the front desk will kindly provide these. These “small considerations” make the stay so much more comfortable.

✅️ A Huge Plus: “Separate” Pajamas

As this is a “PREMIER” brand hotel, the sleepwear provided is excellent. While many hotels offer simple one-piece gowns, here you get separate top-and-bottom pajamas. The fabric is soft and feels wonderful on the skin.

I tend to get a chill while sleeping in gowns, so I usually bring my own pajamas. But here, I didn’t need to! Being able to travel with lighter luggage is a big merit for travelers. Actually, there was one small issue: the waistband on the trousers prepared in the room felt a little tight for me. I felt a bit shy about it, but I decided to call the front desk to ask for “larger trousers only.” To my delight, a female staff member arrived immediately with a smile. She not only brought the trousers but also the top “just in case” (the pajamas are unisex). I was so relieved and happy. This kind of flexible and warm service is definitely one of the charms of this hotel.

✅️ Daily Water & The “ReFa” Hair Dryer

Of course, the amenities are excellent. There were bottles of mineral water for each person and even rare “Plum Tea” (Ume-cha).

At the amenity bar in the lobby, there were skincare products for women and plenty of amenities for men too. You could practically stay here empty-handed! And the best part? The hair dryer in the room was from the popular high-end beauty brand “ReFa”! Being able to care for your hair with a luxury dryer was a wonderful surprise for female guests.

You can adjust the mode to Scalp, Moist, or Volume Up. Even though the manual is in Japanese, the English labels and numbers make it easy to understand.

✅️ Ultimate Peace of Mind: Direct Access to 7-Eleven

Actually, this was one of the most convenient things during my stay. There is a 7-Eleven on the B1 floor of the hotel, directly connected by elevator from the lobby. I went shopping at the 7-Eleven and exited to check the location—it leads to the back of the entrance side. There is an escalator right there that takes you back up to the hotel entrance. Japanese convenience stores are very popular with international visitors. For us, being able to buy water or a midnight snack safely without going out to the main street was a huge relief.

３．Sightseeing: A Spectacular Night View Within Walking Distance

・The Buzzing “Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building Projection Mapping”

After resting at the hotel, we went for a walk to enjoy the Tokyo night. The destination was the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, just a few minutes’ walk away.

There are cafes like “Musashi no Mori Diner” and Starbucks right next to the park where you can relax while looking at the greenery. It’s perfect for a break between trips. We actually had dinner at Musashi no Mori Diner.

・Unbelievable Quality & Impact (For Free!)

Currently, the world’s largest projection mapping “TOKYO Night & Light” is being held here. The viewing area is on the ground level plaza. Many people were actually lying down on the ground to look up at the show! I sat on a nearby chair to watch. On this day, the show ran every 30 minutes from 17:30 to 21:30. Each show is about 15 minutes.

Tip for fans: On weekends and holidays, special shows like “Godzilla: Attack on Tokyo” and “TOKYO GODZILLAs” are included in the schedule! Godzilla fans should definitely check the time and go see it. (I’ve included the link to the schedule at the end of this post.)

The impact was beyond my imagination! The entire massive building becomes a screen, displaying colorful light art synchronized with music. It felt like being inside a movie. It’s amazing that this is “Free.” International tourists around me were filming excitedly, shouting “Amazing!”

By the way, did you know the Government Building Observatory is also free? If you haven’t seen the Tokyo cityscape yet, it’s worth a visit. It’s enjoyable both day and night. Being close to the hotel makes it easy to visit, which is great for travelers who want to save energy.

４．Summary: Why I Recommend This Course

Staying at “Daiwa Roynet Hotel Nishi-Shinjuku PREMIER” and sightseeing in the area made me realize how great this location is.
