Traveling from Nagoya to Tokyo on the Shinkansen (Bullet Train)? You definitely want to see—and photograph—the iconic Mount Fuji.

Many people try to snap a photo while crossing the bridge over the Fuji River. It’s a famous spot, but there is a problem: bridge girders and electric power lines often ruin the shot.

After many attempts, I finally found the perfect spot to capture a clean, wire-free photo of Mt. Fuji. Here is my guide to the best seats and the perfect timing, so you don’t miss out!

Travel Tip: Seat E (Mt. Fuji view) is very popular. Check ticket availability for your dates here.

Traveler’s Tip: If you want to experience Japan beyond the train window, you can also book a private Mt. Fuji tour or find a local guide in Tokyo through GoWithGuide to enjoy a 100% customizable and stress-free journey.

1.Which Seat Should You Reserve?

To see Mt. Fuji, you must book a window seat on the correct side of the train (the mountain side).

  • Ordinary Car: Reserve Seat E (2-seat row side).
  • Green Car: Reserve Seat D.

Note: Since Seat E is the most popular, it sells out quickly. We recommend booking as soon as your travel dates are fixed. 👉️ Search for Shinkansen Tickets

2.The Best Photo Spot: Timing is Everything

Usually, the bridge over the Fuji River is the go-to spot, but as mentioned, obstacles can block your view. Plus, factories appear immediately after crossing the bridge.

The Secret Spot: The best chance for a clear shot is just after passing Shin-Fuji Station.

  • Timing: Approx. 50-52 minutes after departing from Nagoya Station.
  • Landmark: Look for the view right after the station buildings of Shin-Fuji pass by.

3.Don’t Miss Your Chance!

The timing varies slightly depending on which train you take (Nozomi, Hikari, or Kodama). After crossing the river, keep your camera ready and pay close attention to the window. There is a brief moment where the wires disappear, giving you the perfect shutter chance.

4.Ready to see this view for yourself?

Seats on the Mt. Fuji side (Seat E or D) are very popular and sell out quickly. We highly recommend booking your Shinkansen tickets in advance to guarantee the best view.
