Overview
During my trip to France, I stayed two nights in Paris at
Novotel Paris Centre Tour Eiffel.
Located along the Seine River, this large hotel offers one major advantage:
you can walk to the Eiffel Tower.
Thanks to this location, I was even able to visit the Eiffel Tower at 9:00 AM without a reservation—something that turned out to be a highlight of my trip.
👉 Can you visit the Eiffel Tower without a reservation? Here’s what actually happened
In this article, I’ll share my experience staying at this hotel, focusing especially on the difference between Seine River View and City View rooms.

The Open Feeling of a Seine River View Room
On my first night, I stayed in a Seine River View room.
From the window, I could see:
- The Seine River flowing gently
- A wide, open sky
- Parisian streetscape
Although I couldn’t see the Eiffel Tower from my room, the scenery still gave me that unmistakable feeling:
“I’m really in Paris.”

I could even spot the small Statue of Liberty near the bridge and the rooftop of the nearby shopping complex.
This view felt calm, spacious, and very “Parisian.”

The Convenience of Beaugrenelle Shopping Center
Right next to the hotel is
Beaugrenelle Shopping Center—and it’ incredibly convenient.
Highlights include:
- Monoprix supermarket
- Great for ready-to-eat meals
- Perfect for quick dinners
- I even found a Paris-only eco bag here (sold out elsewhere!)
- Shopping floors
- Fashion and lifestyle stores
- Easy access directly from the hotel

I visited this mall multiple times during my stay—it really made things easy.

Elevator System: Secure but a Bit Restrictive
This hotel uses a card-key controlled elevator system:
- You can only access your own floor
- Other floors are restricted without a key
While this improves security, it also means:
- You can’t visit friends staying on another floor
In my case, I had to request a room change so we could stay on the same floor.
Seine View vs City View – Which One Should You Choose?
After changing rooms, I moved from a river view to a City View room.
When I opened the curtains, my first reaction was honestly:
“Oh no… this feels like a mistake.”
Instead of open sky and water, I saw buildings close by.
The view felt enclosed and less inspiring at first.
But this “disappointment” turned into something unexpected.

Comparison
| Feature | Seine River View | City View |
|---|---|---|
| Scenery | River + open sky | Buildings + urban structures |
| Atmosphere | Relaxing, classic Paris | Initially closed-in |
| Hidden value | Beautiful but straightforward | Full of unexpected discoveries |
| Best for | First-time visitors | Curious, observant travelers |
A Strange Yellow Balloon in the Night Sky
That night, something unusual happened.
From my City View room, I noticed:
- A distant hill glowing softly
- A tall white tower nearby
And then—just for a moment—
A yellow balloon appeared in the night sky.
It disappeared quickly, and I wondered if I had imagined it.
Watching the Eiffel Tower Sparkle

Later, I stepped outside the hotel to watch the
Eiffel Tower sparkle at night.
The “champagne flash” (sparkling lights):
- Starts after sunset
- Happens every hour
- The sparkling lights last for about five minutes.
It’s not overly flashy, but it’s elegant and memorable.
The Surprise I Discovered After Returning Home
After returning home, I happened to watch a Japanese TV program called
Sekai Fureai Machi Aruki (“Walking Around the World”).
Some episodes are available internationally on NHK World as “Somewhere Street,”
though not every episode is released in English.
The one I watched explored the area around the Eiffel Tower.
What surprised me most was how everything I had seen from my hotel room suddenly made sense.
What I had taken for an ordinary city view turned out to be something far more meaningful.
The rooftop I thought looked industrial was actually an urban farm.
The glowing balloon in the night sky was monitoring air quality.
The tall white tower was not just infrastructure, but a habitat for peregrine falcons.
That experience completely changed the way I see Paris.
It’s not only a city of art and romance,
but also a city of science, sustainability, and hidden stories.
1. Urban Farming on the Rooftop
What I had assumed was an industrial-looking area turned out to be something completely different.
It was actually a large urban farm built on top of Beaugrenelle—part of a sustainable city initiative that supplies fresh produce to local restaurants.
2. The Yellow Balloon = Air Quality Monitor
The mysterious object I saw in the night sky was the Ballon de Paris Generali.
This tethered balloon monitors air pollution and changes color depending on air quality.
The yellow light I saw indicated that the air quality was at an average level.
3. The Tower = A Home for Peregrine Falcons
The tall white structure I had noticed was part of a heating system known as CPCU.
But beyond its industrial role, it also serves as a nesting site for peregrine falcons.
Researchers observe how these birds adapt and thrive in an urban environment.
Paris: More Than Just an Artistic City
Paris is often described as a city of art and romance.
But through this experience, I discovered another side of the city—one shaped by environmental innovation, scientific thinking, and urban ecology.
It reminded me of the imaginative world of Jules Verne, where science and everyday life intersect.
Final Thoughts
At first, I thought choosing a City View room had been a mistake.
But in the end, it became the most memorable part of my stay.
The Seine View offers the classic beauty of Paris,
while the City View reveals a deeper and more thoughtful side of the city.
Paris didn’t change—the way I saw it did.
If I return to Paris, I would gladly stay here again.
What started as a “wrong choice” turned into the most memorable part of my trip.
If you’re curious to see this hidden side of Paris, this is the place to stay.
Seine view rooms tend to sell out quickly, so it’s worth checking early.
